What if I’m struggling with my course?
Helping you make the most of your learning.
Support is for everyone who finds they have extra requirements when they return to learning - don’t worry, help and support is always available.
- Find out as much as possible about your course early on. It will help you and your tutor prepare.
- If you have any kind of disability/incapacity either permanent or temporary we will support you in college.
- If you would like to talk to someone we can be a sympathetic ear.
- If your problem is personal we may be able to refer you on for suitable support.
- If you experience any difficulties with any part of college life at anytime let us know and we will work through it with you.
- Confidentiality will be respected at all times.
You may need equipment such as a magnifier, extra lighting, a tape recorder, or a hearing loop. You may need extra tutorials or flexibility in regards to attendance. Learners often ask for help with basic maths, English, study skills and word processing. Dyslexia sufferers, for example, can greatly improve their learning experience with a little support.
Once you have started your course talk to your tutor if a problem should arise. Your tutor may help you directly or refer you to a specialist member of staff. Each class is part of a Programme Area and has a Programme Area Leader (PAL). The PAL may help you directly or refer you onto the appropriate person or agency. Where it is possible we will adapt and change current provision to suit your needs.
If you prefer, please telephone Fliss Hawksworth or Jill Brown on (01524) 581231 in Learning Support.
Missed a class?
During your time at college if you are absent you may receive a telephone call from a member of staff enquiring if everything is alright on the course. This is to enable the college to respond quickly to any problems that may arise on courses and to improve your chances of success.
