The table above shows you the possessive pronouns in French. We use these when we want to say ‘my house’ for example.

Let’s take the word ‘book’ as an example.
When you look the word ‘book’ up in the dictionary you will see ‘m’ next to the word ‘livre’. This means that the word is masculine.
Now you want to say ‘my book’. Using the table above you can see that you have to use ‘mon’ with a masculine noun.
The finished result is ‘mon livre’ = my book.
Let’s take the word ‘car’ as an example.
When you look the word ‘car’ up in the dictionary you will see ‘f’ next to the word ‘voiture’. This means that the word is feminine.
Now you want to say ‘my car’. Using the table above you can see that you have to use ‘ma’ with a feminine noun.
The finished result is ‘ma voiture’ = my car.
Let’s take the word ‘chairs’ as an example.
When you look the word ‘chair’ up in the dictionary you will see the word ‘chaise’.
You want to make ‘chaise’ plural. Just add an s as you would in English so that you now have ‘chaises’.
Now you want to say ‘my chairs’. Using the table above you can see that we have to use ‘mes’ with a plural noun.
The finished result is ‘mes chaises’ = my chairs.
