What is the difference between equality and diversity?

The term Equality and Diversity is often used now instead of equal opportunities.

  • Equal Opportunities describe the removal of barriers which can prevent some people from taking part in the same way as others. This is often done through legislation and the actions that organisations are required to take to abide by the legislation
  • Equality in the college is seen as the framework and culture which arises from our Mission Statement. It is made up of policies and procedures to ensure a consistent, non discriminatory, safe environment
  • Diversity describes the difference between each of us. Within a culture of equality that diversity among our students and staff can be celebrated and encouraged. We aim to treat each person as an individual
