Community
Take an Adult College course in your own community.
Our community programme offers many of the same courses that take place in our college at White Cross in Lancaster (modern languages for instance), and a great deal more besides.
We try to work with people where they live, with their friends and family. We offer courses in more than 50 different locations throughout the north part of Lancashire, stretching from Fleetwood to Kirby Lonsdale.
These locations include all the county libraries, some village halls and community centres, local schools and even pubs.
Many of the courses are designed for a particular group of people or place. We publicise these courses in local shops, through parish magazines, the local paper or with a relevant local voluntary group.
Were always on the lookout for groups of people who want a new course in their area and these local people are often in the best position to tell us whats needed.
We have a team of Community Development Tutors who will be glad to come and talk about new ideas with your local group youll find their contact details at the bottom of the page.
Some of our most successful community courses are:
- Computers Dont Bite a three week introductory course to give you basic information and help you decide which computer course you might want to do next
- Family Learning a range of activities for children and parents to do together, which are fun and which also develop skills for parents, carers and their children. We have run courses on Kite Making, T-shirt printing using computer graphics, family pottery classes and many many more
- Gentle Exercise for older learners, helping to maintain fitness and flexibility and providing an opportunity to get out of the house and do something with friends and neighbours
- Craft classes for volunteer and unpaid carers, providing a opportunity for relaxation and a chance to learn new skills
- Job Seeking Skills for those looking for work or hoping for a change of career
- Writing a Community Newsletter including the editing, layout and graphics and providing a chance to brush up on writing skills
- Local History a chance to find out more about the place where you live and its past
