Identifying Routes into University and Making Career Choices
- Criminology Intro to OCNW Level 1/START
- An introduction to the causes and effects of criminal behaviour and a chance to explore some of the issues related to this often controversial subject. Assessment is by coursework and portfolio.
- Criminology OCNW Level 2 Stage A
- Examine the historical development of, and explanations for, criminal behaviour. Contemporary factors such as drug and alcohol abuse, peer pressure and unemployment will be explored to consider their influence and effect. Assessment is by coursework and portfolio.
- Criminology OCNW Level 3 Stage B
- Explore different explanations, historical and current, for criminal behaviour and consider how society should deal with offenders. Statistical evidence will be investigated to find out why, for example women appear to offend less often than men. Assessment is by coursework and an end of year exam.
Qualification Descriptions
- OCNW Level 1/START
- courses are short introductory and specialist courses of up to 10 weeks duration.
- OCNW Level 2 Stage As
- are an equivalent level to GCSEs but are shorter in length. Assessment is by portfolio and written assessment.
- OCNW Level 3 Stage Bs
- are an equivalent to A2s (previously A Levels). Assessment is by written assignments, projects and end of year exams. Level 3 courses are intensive and demanding in terms of time, commitment and skills.
- Study Skills
- are an integral part of the access to HE programme. Classes and workshops are held throughout the year to help you with reading for your course, writing essays and preparing for tests and exams.
