9 million people if the UK have some degree of hearing loss. That’s 1 in 7 people. Many businesses and services have deaf clients and customers.

Many businesses and services have deaf clients and customers. Many of us have Deaf people within our family and social circle. It is important to be able to communicate effectively.

The College offers a range of BSL courses:

BSL: Introduction to:

A short, non-qualification course for people who just want to get the basics and give BSL a try

BSL: Level 1 (CACDP)

This 55 hour course provides an opportunity to study this fascinating language in more depth and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Learners don’t have to have done an introductory course to do Level 1.

BSL: Maintain and Refresh

This non-qualification course provides an opportunity for learners who have studied BSL to level 1 to maintain, refresh and develop their skills.

BSL: Level 2. (CACDP)

This 90 hour course enables learners who have successfully completed level 1 to develop further skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

BSL: Post-Level 2

This non-qualification course enables learners who have completed level 2 to develop skills and fluency in a structured workshop setting.

BSL: Level 3 (CACDP)

This 120 hour course enables learners who have successfully completed level 2 to progress their studies to a higher level. This course requires considerable commitment and work outside class.

Communication Tactics

A short, practical non-qualification course focusing on simple but effective tactics for communicating with Deaf people. This course is valuable for anyone but may be of particular interest to organisations and businesses who want their staff to be confident in basic communications with Deaf clients and customers.

This course is usually run as a one-day workshop.

Deaf Community and Culture

How much do you know about the deaf community? This course provides valuable insight into the society, cultural background and heritage of Deaf people.

This course is usually run as a two-day workshop.

Lip Reading

This course enables people to learn how to lip read and build their skills in a range of situations.
